Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas (BBBSCC) is looking for a VP of Development to join our team in our Charlotte, NC office.

The ideal candidate will be an innovative, seasoned development leader with superior relationship building, communication and interpersonal skills. Experience will include management of a broad range of development programs and functions, as well as successful experience cultivating and soliciting 5 and 6-figure gifts.This position reports to the President and CEO, the VPD is part of the senior leadership team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the President and CEO.

  • Responsible for all donor and prospect relationships with individuals, corporations and foundations. The Vice President of Development (VPD) will oversee and manage all aspects of fundraising plans, programs, campaigns and staffing. This includes but is not limited to annual giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation grants, fundraising events, agency communications, and all internal resources, accountability and structures needed to ensure fundraising success.

Requirements

  •  A person with 5-7 years of experience in development/fundraising, including leadership roles, whose career shows consistent success.

  •  A demonstrated leader in the development profession with a proven track record of closing significant gifts and evidence of exceptional cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation skills with major donors.

  •  The ability to grow an organization and hire and train staff.

  •  Experience supervising volunteers.

  •  Able to promote a vision, to articulate a strategy, and to inspire the board, coworkers and a wide variety of community leaders to engage in the organization’s fundraising efforts.

  •  Unusually good communication skills, with particular emphasis on clear and concise writing and presentation skills to volunteer boards.

  •  Proven management experience along with the administrative skills to organize, document activities and create a robust development program.

  •  Proven success in collaborating with senior leadership


EDUCATION & RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE 

  • Actively participate as a member of the senior leadership team, modeling the organization’s values and competencies for excellence while contributing to organization wide planning, goal setting, and strategic planning.

  • Effectively communicate the organization’s fundraising goals and encourage an environment of collaboration, thus creating a stronger culture of philanthropy.

  • Develop philanthropic and communication strategies that align with the strategic objectives of the organization.

  • Direct the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for all individual, foundation and corporate prospects and donors.

  • Recruit, motivate, organize, manage, train, and lead the development staff in a manner which promotes professional accomplishments and career enhancement.

  • Engage with Board members to support their personal philanthropy and their engagement in advancing the mission of the organization through effective cultivation, stewardship and, where appropriate, solicitation of donors and prospects.

  • Establish an appropriate system of metrics and accountabilities for them development department and the staff, and evaluate staff based on these and other performance measurements.

  • Oversee and report on the development budget.

  • Supervise prospect research, data processing and data analysis to better meet development needs.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clearly, persuasively, and technically.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience building and stewarding relationships with funders and stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and donor databases (CRM experience preferred).

  • High degree of integrity and alignment with the mission of BBBSCC.

  • Knowledge of trends in youth development, education, and nonprofit funding.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.

  • Demonstrates initiative, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Office environment. This position is located in our Charlotte office.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.

  • Must be able to move about inside the office to collaborate with staff and leadership.

  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment (computer, copier, printer).

  • Must be able to lift office supplies and equipment up to 25 lbs.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet state-required insurance minimums.
